I didn't snap a picture but it looks like Cruiser Outfitters, or someone, is importing more Bunderas (Land Cruiser 73 series...short wheelbase 70's) into Utah this morning. I saw 2 (a soft top and hard top) on a trailer on my way into work this morning. And it wasn't any of the ones I know about.
In case you weren't aware jeep fans, this is basically your dream ride: 4 cylinder 3.4L diesel, sitck, dual solid axles (1 ton axles - close to Dana 60 in strength), fully boxed frame, removable hard top, Short wheelbase and overhangs, dual locker options, etc, etc.

Yeah, they've got a bit of underbite to them...but they almost always have winches to go with it!

these go for around $7000 up here in BC, RHD, usually low km.. always tempting.

I think a lot of these are coming form Canada, though many are RHD, so I think they are direct from Japan too.

That's the expedition 7 truck I pictured above, its owned by Scott Brady of overland Journal I think. I've seen them around since one of the other team members (Kurt Williams) owns his land cruiser shop just down the street from me. Not legal for import I'm afraid.

You can import a pre-facelift 70 series since they are old enough, but it will have the WOEFULLY underpowered 1HZ Diesel. (129hp and 210 ft-lbs from 4.2 liters) It will never EVER let you down, but it might not be able to get you up the hill. People turbocharge them but they have thin piston crowns (since they are NA) and don't take well to high pressure turbos so the most you get reliably is something like 160 hp and 280 ft-lbs. The good news is that aside from the engine the older models aren't much different.

hmm interesting. All of my want and interest is pure hypothetical since I am broke college student status I just love how simple and cool looking they are and the plaid interiors and ruggedness etc.
Didn't they make a turbo diesel?

They made a 1HD-FT or 1HD-FTE, but it was never available in the pre-facelift 70's its not much better though, it has about 170 hp and 290 ft-lbs. Even still, I desire this engine and its associated transmission (HF151 5 speed) very much. You can tune them to give you about 200 hp and 350 ft-lbs, which is perfect, IMO. There used to be a guy here in Utah (also part of the E7 crew) that did these swaps and they were immaculate. EXPENSIVE and immaculate. Sadly, his shop closed up.

Never heard of Banderas... Bandeirante from Brazil yes, but not Banderas. Canada only got the BJ70 in 1985-86. So theses are surely 73 from Japan, and surely LJ73, not with a "B" engine.

Yeah, you are right about the BJ73. But the LJ73 from 1986-93 had a turbo diesel available too.
I've took a look at my LC poster ( available here ) and see that Bundera has been used for that body style. I'll have to get back to my LC history book when I get back home...
